Lismore Vintage Shopping Guide

There’s no shortage of vintage shopping opportunities in Lismore.

With its countless vintage, antique and collectable shops and markets, Lismore lives up to its reputation as a vintage haven. But, where to begin? We’ve got some ideas! Get started with our ultimate Lismore vintage shopping guide. For guides to Byron Bay & beyond, click here.

Lismore Collectables

Attention all rockabillies – or anyone who loves Barsony Ceramics (best known for their ‘Black Lady Lamps’), lusterware (ceramics with an iridescent metallic glaze), old car stuff and vintage industrial – this shop is for you.

While Lismore Collectables caters for a wide range of vintage hunters, this shop is most definitely 50’s supercool. Pick up dead stock (old but new) vintage dresses, men’s bowling shirts and a hand-picked collection of pinup clothing from all over the world including Hell Bunny Clothing, Hearts & Roses London and Voodoo Vixen.

Owners Anna and David are true vintage seekers and some of my favourite local vintage shop owners. They know all the history of the items they sell (I’m still obsessing over a magnificent blue porcelain swan that had originally been won at the 1957 Lismore Show), play great music (Depeche Mode, The Cure, Bauhaus; to name just a few) and are genuinely lovely, lovely people.

Plus if you shop here – guys, you too can look like a young Johnny Cash and girls, you can look like Sophia Loren in ‘That Kind of Woman’! It’s bombshell heaven.

Two Roads Vintage

Located in a cute, old weatherboard shop in Lismore, this is where you need to go if you want to shop for vintage versions of the current boho fashion trends.

Shop here, and you’ll be the height of fashion from cute prairie dresses, leather tooled bags, knee-high boots, vintage groupie jeans, Stevie Nicks-worthy shawls and suede jackets. What I love, love, love about this shop is there is no crap and every item is in beautiful condition. You’ll struggle to leave Two Roads Vintage empty handed. I know I did.

Create a look that no one can follow, with this playful but perfectly curated collection. It’s a boho girls’ dream closet!

Carrington Bazaar

This is one of my all-time favourite vintage haunts and as the store’s name suggests this ‘bazaar’ houses a collective of different vintage dealers.

There are dealers selling worn-in rock ‘n roll tees and cowboy boots, religious artifacts, shabby chic furniture, French crystal chandeliers, industrial pigeon hole cupboards, reworked steampunk vintage clothes (they’re A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!) and rare vinyl, to name just a few of their goodies.

If you love your vintage – then you’ll love Carrington Bazaar. And on a side note, one of my favourite dealers is located here!!! Just look for the rosaries, crucifixes and beautiful displays…you can’t miss it! This dealer was also the cover girl (actually guy – Simon Robinson) of Country Style in March 2008 – which still sits proudly in my enormous pile of much-loved magazines.

Rosemont Collectables

Rosemont Collectables is Lismore’s longest running, independent collectables store.

Started in 2010, the store’s owner Candace has turned a small Lismore shop into a whimsical space filled with collectable curios and an incredible array of beautiful antique and vintage china; including tea sets and dinner sets as well as crystal and drinking glasses. If you’re planning a vintage-style wedding or girls’ high-tea, then Rosemont Collectables needs to be on your radar.

What I also love about this shop is that any vintage-fan can afford to buy something truly unique here, at very reasonable prices. From 50’s make-up compacts, lusterware, mid-century kitchenalia, original dressmaker patterns, immaculate linen, vintage cookbooks, retro clothes and so much more.

It really is Lismore’s own little goldmine.

The Treasure Trade

Favoured for its beautifully kept 70’s and 80’s vintage clothing and accessories, this shop most definitely plays homage to the renegades of glam.

Think The Runaways, New York Dolls and Joan Jett styled platform shoes, vintage denim, tight tees, Studio 54 jumpsuits and an incredible collection of 70’s leather and suede knee-high boots. I can easily picture Suzi Quatro and Debbie Harry going clothes shopping here.

The Treasure Trade also sell a range of retro kitchenalia and bric-a-brac in warm organic shades of yellow, orange and brown. In fact, the whole shop exudes a California sorta vibe.

So if you’re not heading to L.A. anytime soon, check out The Treasure Trade. It’s a shop full of buried treasure.

Lismore Car Boot Market

If you love the (treasure) hunt, then Lismore Car Boot Market is for you. On the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, Lismore Shopping Square car park is transformed into an undercover market.

While there are stalls selling new stuff (who needs that?), there are just as many stalls selling old stuff. And the Lismore Car Boot market is one of the few remaining local markets that actually still sells vintage, with the beachy markets having a more hand-made and artisan vibe.

Buy everything from furniture to clothing to knickknacks to costume jewellery, records, books, bags, shoes, lamps, kitchenalia, shabby chic tables, plant stands, pictures and so much more.

Lismore Recycled Market

Held on the third Saturday of every month at the Lismore Recycling & Recovery Centre, is the Lismore Recycled Market.

Set in shipping containers, the market’s stallholders sell second-hand, recycled and upcycled goods including furniture, homewares, jewellery, art, sculptures and clothes. Looking for something truly unique for your home, garden or collection? Then chances are you’ll find it here!

AND by shopping here, you’ll be actively recycling and reducing landfill. Talk about a win-win.

Lismore Vintage and Handmade Market

Held on the 1st Saturday of each month the Lismore Vintage and Handmade Market is a must-do shopping experience. With different stalls selling vintage and handcrafted goods, there are surprises around every corner from knickknacks to more serious collectables.

This market has a real artsy vibe and I adore that it kicks-off at 10am to 2pm in the beautiful grounds of The Northern Rivers Conservatorium, perfect for some brunch or lunchtime Saturday shopping!

The Fairmarket Lismore Antique Centre

This shop is full of vintage and antique gorgeousness – all housed in one spectacular old building in Lismore. If you are looking for pristine antique furniture, homewares or jewels, this is where you need to come and shop.

They only sell seriously beautiful pieces, but the prices are so modest that you’ll want to redecorate immediately.

House of M

House of M is all about the love. Their love of sub-cultures.

This is one wild ride of a shop, laden with everything from 1991 Super Nintendo consoles, action figures, obscure (and familiar) comics, screen printed clothing, punk-style badges and video games for every known games console in the entire universe. And not just that, but they also stock a huge range of retro toys and collectables. There really is no status quo for this shop.

So if you’re looking to have some fun, relive your childhood or hunt down a new comic for your collection, this is the place to get shopping.

Check it out. I know I’m smitten!

J&J’s Junk Shop

Firstly, I love this shop because you’ll ALWAYS find something to buy. And secondly because you don’t have to get up at 6am on the weekend to hit the markets, local swap meet or Saturday morning garage sales. It’s all done for you!

In fact, take it slow. Personally I like to have a caffeine-hit from Duck Pond Espresso Bar (few doors up) before I hit J&J’s. This shop does take some stamina to get through its many rooms of affordable and eclectic pieces. But that’s what true vintage shoppers love, the thrill of the chase. And this shop certainly doesn’t disappoint!

Hunt down kooky, rare and beautiful vintage items from every era, including furniture, jewellery, homewares, pictures, lighting and so much more.
